ABSTRACT

Glass-metal composite is a composition material consisting of a glass layer compressed between met-al shells (Pikul 2008). In the process of its manufacturing a durable connection of glass layer and shells is provided and necessary conditions for forming glass layer without surface micro cracks are created. As a result, glass layer and glass-metal composite obtain in general an exceptionally high shock resistance and durability having a relatively low weight. What is very important there are no real obstacles for manufacturing large ME equipment from glass-metal composite. Studies of glass-metal composite effectiveness in deepwater equipment have shown that durable hulls can be made of it and they are able to provide a necessary floatability of the deepwater equipment even at the final depth of the World ocean (Pikul & Goncharuk 2009).
