ABSTRACT

Owing to the potential applications in biomedical and environmental sciences, increasing attention has been paid to develop novel polymers with biocompatibility, biodegradability and non-toxicity. Polycarbonates (PCs) contain carbonate groups, [–O-(C=O)–O-]. Owning to their superior characteristics

such as temperature resistance, high heat distortion temperature (HDT), impact strength, stiffness, transparency, dimensional stability, thermal stability, impact resistance and some particular optical properties, PCs are easy to process, mould and thermoform. As a particular group of thermoplastic polymers, PCs have been widely used as materials and engineering plastics in the industry over the past decades [1,2].
