ABSTRACT

In 2009, the World Bank published a book by Jamil Salmi, The Challenge of Establishing WorldClass Universities. The author is a prominent Moroccan education economist, who graduated from the French Grande École ESSEC (École Supérieure des Sciences Économiques et Commerciales), and holds a master’s degree in Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. degree in Development Studies from the University of Sussex (UK). After working for some time at the National Institute of Education Planning in Morocco, in 1986, he has joined the World Bank where he is a Tertiary Coordinator; he is also an expert collaborating with Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Jamil Salmi (2009, 2010) is an excellent example himself of the globalization of higher education at work.
