ABSTRACT

This chapter covers radiologically guided tissue sampling in

the diagnosis of sarcoidosis. The different techniques and

equipment are described. Sarcoidosis offers a broad range

of potential biopsy sites. Histologically, diagnosis is based on

the identification of non-caseating epithelioid granulomas.

Diagnosis by biopsy can usually be obtained (Teirstein et al.

2005), but may be insufficient to make a diagnosis as other

conditions are associated with non-caseating granulomas.

The diagnosis must be made from consideration of the

clinical presentation, radiological manifestations together

with laboratory tests.
