ABSTRACT

This paper reports on an exploratory study on the relationship between BIM and sustainability in transport infrastructure in the perspective of government. A comparison is made between the political situation in Europe and China. The existing state of the transport infrastructure construction policies in terms of sustainability and BIM strategies and how they change and develop over China and Europe will be explored. The views from practitioners will be collected via semi-structured interviews for validating. A special focus will be laid on the pull and push policy analysis. It is concluded in Europe there is currently not so much activity in new transport infrastructure projects, but more in maintenance and renovation. There is a growing interest for life-cycle approaches. In China there are a lot of activities in new transport infrastructure projects as a result of the fast economic growth. But also the interest for sustainability has recently grown dramatically.
