ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The work outlines possibilities of shaping roof forms made up of flat profiled sheets transformed freely into shell shapes during their assembling to shell directrices. A unidirectional folding allows each sheet fold to be a structural member, which may be bent, twisted or sheared. The use of the above folding for building covers requires solving many issues including related to the restrictions referring to: a) shape changes of the folds that tend to preserve the rectilinearity of their axes, b) strength and buckling changes, c) modelling these changes. A form diversification of all folds of an individual shell resulting from various curvatures and a mutual position of its directrices is a phenomenon, which enables us to create innovative, original and diversified shell structures.
