ABSTRACT
Many countries in the world have developed policies and criteria and indicators to promote sustainable forest management (SFM) (Brand 1997). Although this term will mean different things to different people, it is generally accepted that SFM can only be achieved by using ecosystem-based management (Grumbine 1994), with the ultimate goal of maintaining forest ecosystem integrity over time so that future generations can benefit from the same goods and services currently and historically provided by
