ABSTRACT

The effective breadth should not, but often is, mistaken for effective width. The only difference between these two concepts is the loading considered. The phrase “effective width” is used when axial loads leading to the buckling of the plate are applied. When the plate is under bending, we speak about “effective breadth”.
