ABSTRACT

Crushing is a widely used process in the production of aggregates, the most common granular materials used in civil engineering. Basically, this process may be described as the breakage of large pieces of quarry rocks into a collection of fragments under the action of contact forces. However, this process is anything but basic, since crushed particles shall meet high standard geometrical requirements expressed mainly in terms of size and shape in order to be incorporated into construction products such as unbound materials, asphalt materials or railway ballasts.
