ABSTRACT
Neglected tropical and emerging infectious diseases present a continuing, global challenge for detection/diagnosis, treatment, and, ultimately, eradication.1,2 The diseases run the entire gamut of possibilities from viral (e.g., the recent H1N1 epidemics), to parasitic, bacterial, and even fungal. In this chapter, we will focus the discussion mainly on two parasitic diseases, schistosomiasis and neurocysticercosis (NCC). In addition, a description of some work concerning hepatitis B virus (HBV) is also included.
