ABSTRACT

The oceans encompass about 71% of the surface of our planet, and approximately 90% of the total global species live in the marine habitat (Bob, 2003). Marine ecosystems are complex and dynamic. Marine cosmeceuticals, currently a buzzword in the industry, describe beauty care products containing active pharmaceutical ingredients derived from marine sources that show physiological actions in the treatment of aging skin. Chronological skin aging, often called natural aging, is a universal and inevitable process (Ravichandran et al., 2005). Both men and women want to erase the ravages of time and restore their skin to its younger days. This is because of the never-ending quest for the perfect, wrinkle-free complexion and prolonged interest in eternal youth with minimum signs of aging in this beauty-conscious world. Thousands of antiwrinkle creams have ™ooded the market due to the increased desire of people to maintain the youthful appearance of their skin. The common ingredients used in antiwrinkle creams are retinol, hydroxyl acids, coenzyme Q10, copper peptides, kinetin, and tea extracts. Although many cosmeceutical products have been in existence
