ABSTRACT

Allergy is among the major diseases of the world, affecting about 500 million people (Bousquet et al. 2006). Pollen is a well-known cause of allergies and allergic symptoms like rhinorrhea (runny nose), nasal congestion, sneezing, red and itchy eyes, skin itching, flushing and hives (urticaria), and asthma symptoms such as coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. With people in developed countries nowadays generally spending 90-95% of their time indoors, factors affecting the presence of aeroallergens indoors are important in understanding health impact and potential intervention methods. In general, most indoor allergens are seen to be strongly associated with asthma sensitisation, pollen primarily with rhinitis.
