ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The article presents the comparison of performance of electronic (digital) and optical leveling. The advantages and disadvantages of working with electronic (digital) levels are described. The influence of external factors, such as the vibration of the instrument and leveling staff, non-vertical position of the staff, whether it is too strong or weak illumination etc., on the operation of the electronic (digital) levels is analyzed. Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University performed field studies with different models of electronic levels under variable light conditions of leveling staff and different distances from the instrument to the rod. Illumination of barcode leveling staff was measured with a Lux Meter. The dependencies reflecting the influence of illumination degree within the devices safe operation are obtained. In addition, recommendations for their efficient use in conditions lacking daylight are given.
